Cure the across-the-line putt by feeling a draw

To cure a putting stroke that takes the club back outside and swipes across the ball with an open face (which prevents a good true roll), the instructor wants the golfer to take the putter back just a touch inside with a little arc and stroke through it, feeling almost like he's going to hit a draw with the putter on the way back. That across-the-line swipe is the opposite of what he wants; the slightly-inside path lets the ball get a true roll.
