Practice bunker spin with your longest iron

To train the spinning splash shot, make it harder than it needs to be: practice bunker shots with your longest, lowest-lofted iron the way Seve did with a three iron. Lay the face wide open, get down the grip to point the loft up, and get super low - almost putting a knee into the sand. Being able to get a long iron out of the bunker transfers back to and improves your standard splash shot.

Try it

  1. Take your longest iron out of the bag.
  2. Open the club face up.
  3. Get down the grip and lower to point the loft more up.
  4. Get super low, almost put your knee into the sand.

Why this context matters

Offered as a finishing practice drill, referencing Seve Ballesteros practising with a strong-lofted iron.
