Set up for a bump-and-run chip

For the bump-and-run setup, the speaker chokes down on a nine iron with soft grip pressure so the strike is not too firm. She uses a super narrow stance with about five to 10% extra pressure in the front foot and keeps it there through the backswing for consistent contact, with the whole alignment slightly open to the target. She prefers the ball in the middle of the stance (it can move back up to a whole ball), because middle makes her shots more consistent.

Try it

  1. Choke down on the club and keep grip pressure nice and soft so you don't hit it very firm
  2. Take a super narrow stance with about five to 10% extra pressure in the front foot
  3. Keep that pressure there during your backswing for consistent contact
  4. Set your whole alignment slightly open to the target
  5. Keep the ball position in the middle, or move it back about half a ball to a whole ball
