Push with the trail-hand pad, not the fingers
To create a solid strike, set up with the trail elbow tucked and push down (and slightly toward the lead side) with the pad of the trail hand rather than throwing the fingers at the ball. The instructor says pushing with the fingers flicks or throws the club, points the pad upward, pops the trail arm out, and loses all strike and distance.
