Use fairway bunkers as a ball-striking drill
Practicing from a fairway bunker is a strong drill for iron striking because the sand punishes getting dumped underneath the ball, so you cannot get away with hanging back. It forces you to transfer your weight and strike ball-first, which the instructor says has helped his own iron play. If you can find a fairway bunker to practice from, use it to train weight transfer and strike.
