Putt from a tight fringe when chipping into the grain
Into the grain from a tight fringe, the safest play is to putt, because the putter won't get trapped in the grain the way a wedge can. Make a fairly aggressive putting stroke and let it roll out to the hole. The downside is distance control, since you have to hit it fairly hard.
