Play an imaginary 18-hole round on the range

For range practice, the instructor suggests pretending you're playing your favorite course, or the course you'll play this weekend, and playing all 18 holes in your head. On a par 4, pull your driver and try to hit the fairway, then pull the club for the approach - a 7 iron, say - and hit to where the flag is, adding chipping and putting if you can. She frames this as building imagination, which she calls part of the skill in your golf game.

Try it

  1. Pretend like you're playing on your favorite golf course, or a golf course that you'll be playing this weekend, and play 18 holes
  2. Pull out your driver, pick out where the fairway starts from and ends, and try and hit that fairway
  3. Pull out your 7 iron, the next one you pick out where the flag is, and hit to that
  4. if you can do short game, chipping, putting, that's great. If not, just do it up to chipping
  5. play all 18
