Get shaft lean with the finish line drill

The finish line drill is aimed at getting more shaft lean and lower dynamic loft at impact, which the instructor says are big for compression and solid contact with irons. You stick an alignment rod straight up out of the ground and place the ball two or three inches just inside it, so that face-on the rod cuts through the middle of the ball. The cue is to have your hands win the race to the finish line against the club head. Swinging as hard as you can tends to send the first shot well right, because players rotate the forearms to get the handle ahead, which opens the face and cheats the drill.
