Sweep the grass with the driver-off-the-deck drill
The coach's driver-off-the-deck drill is meant to feel the correct path into the ball. Set the driver on the ground and swing: if the club bounces off the ground or takes a divot, that tells you the downswing was chopping; if you can sweep and brush just a little grass instead, that is the correct path into the ball. He suggests starting with a chip-and-pitch motion to feel it, then doing a full swing with the same feeling.

- Put the driver on the ground.
- If you hit the ground and the club bounces off the ground, or even take a divot with the driver, then that tells you your downswing was chopping.
- Take this driver back and sweep the grass, brush a little bit of grass.
- Start off with a chip motion, like a chip and pitch motion, just to feel it.
- Then you do a full swing feeling the same thing.
