Move the ball back to stop pushing and pulling putts

Trevino's rule for players who hit at their putts rather than stroke them is to not play the ball too far forward. When you start missing putts, he says, it is usually because the ball is too far forward in your stance: his image is that your arms are a 'tree with two limbs' that can only reach so far, so a too-forward ball makes the putter rotate closed to the left, you compensate, and then push it right, giving you the pulls and pushes. The fix is to move the ball back in your stance.
