Balance board drill for lead-leg stability

A drill to train lead-leg stability while the body rotates. Stand your lead foot in the middle of a balance board and hold a second board across your chest to mark your hips and shoulders so they move as one. Keep the lead knee bent and pointing forward the whole swing, never letting it rotate with the torso or slide out of the way, with the trail foot toe-down carrying almost no pressure. Then turn so the hips and shoulders rotate while the knee stays bent and pointing forward.

Try it

  1. Place your lead foot in the middle of the board
  2. Grab another board in front of your chest to mark where your hip bones and shoulders are
  3. Keep that lead knee bent and pointing forward during the whole swing, and don't let it rotate with the torso or move out of the way
  4. Turn so your hips and shoulders rotate while the knee stays bent and pointing forward

Why this context matters

Priority-one drill for a student whose lead leg slid out of the way, adding cut spin.
