Hit down on a fairway wood off the deck
For a fairway wood off the deck (no tee) you need to hit down on the ball, so the head should not fall behind as much as with a driver. Keep the head on the ball with the hips slightly ahead of the head; if the torso out-races the hips there is no room and you flick it. Same release principle as the driver, adjusted so you still finish the arc while striking down.
