Play the ball behind the arc's low point
To guarantee good contact from the ground with a fairway wood, hit slightly down on the ball rather than trying to help it up. Because the swing is an arc whose low point sits under the lead shoulder, the ball should be positioned to the right of (behind) that point. Danny checks it by forming a straight line with the lead arm and club, dropping straight down, and confirming the ball sits behind where the club lands.
