Catch the ball first, divot later from a fairway bunker
For a fairway bunker shot the low point of the swing should be in front of the ball: catch the ball first, divot later, rather than picking it. The coach says picking it makes the club drop lower and then come up into the air, which brings a chance of blading it, hitting the lip, or chunking it.
