Use the chunk-and-run for safer long bunker shots

The chunk-and-run is a safer variant of the long greenside bunker shot, especially if you tend to thin it. Instead of taking about one inch of sand to spin it, take two to three inches; to come in earlier, look at a 'ghost ball' set behind the real ball rather than at the ball itself. Nothing else changes and you still apply some chest speed; taking more sand makes the sand pass over the ball, imparting topspin so it runs out to the pin.

Try it

  1. take between two and maybe three inches of sand
  2. look at sort of a ghost ball and I'm going to look at the ball behind it which is going to bring me in a little bit earlier

Why this context matters

Presented as option one-B, a bail-out for players prone to thinning the long bunker shot.
