Hit fairway woods like irons, strike at 1 o'clock
The instructor says fairway woods and hybrids off the deck should be treated like irons, not drivers. Using his clock image, strike at about one o'clock rather than the iron's two o'clock: move the ball slightly toward the front foot to around three inches inside the lead heel, keep the hands ahead, and retain a slightly descending blow. A topped ball running along the ground can result from hitting up on it.
