Fairway woods: ball two balls back of lead heel

The same principle applies to fairway woods. He warns that players who struggle to get woods airborne tend to lean further and further back to help the ball up, which just catches the bottom of the club. Instead keep the ball back - about two balls back of your lead heel, not as far back as an iron - so the shaft still has a forward angle and the path is heading slightly out to the right before you strike it.
